Anointing of the Sick

The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick brings the healing presence of Christ to those experiencing serious illness, declining health, or the difficulties of advanced age. Through prayer and anointing with blessed oil, the Church asks God to give strength, peace, courage and healing to the person who is sick.
You do not need to wait until the final moments of life to receive this sacrament. If you or a loved one is seriously ill, preparing for surgery, experiencing a significant decline in health, or in need of spiritual strength during illness, we encourage you to contact St. Brendan Church.

What is the Anointing of the Sick?

Anointing of the Sick is one of the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church and a special expression of Christ's care for those who are suffering.
During the sacrament, a priest prays over the person and anoints the forehead and hands with the Oil of the Sick.
Through this sacrament, the person receives the grace of the Holy Spirit, offering comfort, peace, strength, forgiveness, and, when it is God's will, physical healing. The sacrament may be received more than once if a person's illness becomes more serious or if another serious illness develops.

We request that families contact St. Brendan Church before a medical situation becomes an emergency when possible.
