Generous and Grateful Giving
Giving is one of the key ways we worship God. Jesus gave everything for us. So, it’s our joy to give back to him in support of the work his church is doing in San Francisco and around the world.
Nearly one quarter of Jesus’ teaching was about money. What we do with our treasure reveals what’s in our hearts (Matthew 6:21). Jesus said that we cannot serve both God and money (Matthew 6:24). Giving generously allows us to show that God is more important than material possessions.
Tithing (which means a “tenth”) has always been the biblical standard of giving (Leviticus 27:30-34; Malachi 3:8-12; Matthew 23:23). It is the first 10 percent of a person’s income, before taxes or anything else is taken out. Although we cannot outgive God, we should offer the first and best portion of what we have back to God. It’s a huge step and takes trust, but you’re not in it alone. As Saint Paul writes, “God is able to make every grace abundant for you, so that in all things, always having all you need, you may have an abundance for every good work.” (2 Corinthians 9:8) That’s because “God loves a cheerful giver.” (2 Corinthians 9:7)
There’s no better investment than the local church. Although there are many good causes, we believe that Jesus really does change lives, which in turn changes the world. Simply put, your giving makes mission and discipleship happen. Every dollar given from people like you makes gospel-centered ministries happen, covers operating expenses, and supports the work of our pastoral staff.
Some people have very good reasons to doubt whether the Church and its leaders should be trusted. We understand, and we make every effort to maintain financial transparency. You can review our annual report. If you have any questions about our annual budget or stewardship practices, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Our books are open to you.
